FREE has had a successful, collaborative relationship with the Northport VA’s Supported Employment Program for the past 5 years, resulting in the processing and placement of many Veterans. With numerous affiliates and 2,400 employees across Long Island, FREE’s need for qualified workers in a variety of occupations has put us in position to hire Veterans internally as well.
FREE will be offering community garden-style raised beds free of charge to interested veterans. The plots will be located at Skills Unlimited, Inc in Oakdale. Veterans will be able to grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers of their choice, and are free to keep all of their yield.
The Access to Home for Heroes (formerly known as Access to Home for Veterans) program provides financial assistance to make dwelling units accessible for low- and moderate income veterans living with a disability. Examples include: wheelchair ramps and lifts, handrails, doorway widening, and roll-in showers.
