Adelante of Suffolk County to Receive $10,000 Contribution From AT&T for Dropout Reduction Program

On Friday, June 6 at 2:00 p.m., Adelante of Suffolk County will be receiving a $10,000 contribution from AT&T. The contribution will go towards supporting a college and career readiness program for youth at risk of not completing their high school education. Adelante is an affiliate of Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, Inc. (FREE), a not-for-profit agency that supports more than 3,500 individuals with intellectual disabilities, mental illness and traumatic brain injury.

The goal of Adelante’s Dropout Reduction Program is to reduce the number of students who drop out from High School. The program will provide extra support for students so that they may succeed in school, learn to make healthy decisions, stay safe, graduate from high school, and begin to think about college early. Students will be provided with a safe place to go after school and will be assisted in developing to their fullest potential by participating in a diverse range of enrichment activities focusing on self-esteem building seminars, academic counseling and tutoring, ESL Instruction, SAT and GED Preparation, career awareness and job readiness workshops and other educational workshops.

Marissa Shorenstein, AT&T New York President will be on hand to present the ceremonial check to Adelante. The generous support is part of AT&T Aspire, the company’s $350 million commitment to education. With more than one million students impacted since its launch in 2008, Aspire is one of the nation’s largest corporate commitments focused on helping more students graduate from high school ready for college and careers.

Also in attendance at the ceremony will be members of the Brentwood/Central Islip community.
